Nothing Else Matters

Published on

For those of you who know me from my past, it does not surprise you to see the words of Metallica being referenced in this article.

My love for Metallica's music began in college in 1985 when I bought my first Metallica Cassette tape, hastily unwrapped the plastic and had my friend with the coolest car stereo jam it on for us.  That was Master of Puppets, and from that moment on I realized the reality of the modern day puppet master. They are everywhere, but especially in high positions of power and dominion.

Why do I like Metallica's (earlier) music?

The very first appeal was the power and synchronicity of their arrangements with several perfectly timed starts and stops and changes in tempo. However, the deep lyrics written by these guys are very foretelling, I believe.

I have noticed several heavy metal bands that have somehow been so accurate in their lyrical depiction of current and future society that it's almost uncanny. Now, maybe I am reading too much into it, but for those of you who have studied this, you know exactly what I mean. Artists in general are brilliant and have the ability to see things others might not, whether they exist or not.

There are many examples of great lyrics in heavy metal, but I really appreciate Nothing Else Matters in this day and age of everyone wanting to change who they are. Forever trust in who you are and who God made you to be.  The lyrics below are copyright Metallica.

METALLICA - NOTHING ELSE MATTERS

So close, no matter how far

Couldn't be much more from the heart

Forever trusting who we are

And nothing else matters

Never opened myself this way

Life is ours, we live it our way

All these words, I don't just say

And nothing else matters

I never opened myself this way

Life is ours, we live it our way

All these words, I don't just say

And nothing else matters

Trust I seek and I find in you

Every day for us something new

Open mind for a different view

And nothing else matters

Never cared for what they say

Never cared for games they play

Never cared for what they do

Never cared for what they know

And I know, yeah, yeah

So close, no matter how far

Couldn't be much more from the heart

Forever trusting who we are

No, nothing else matters

Songwriters: Ulrich Lars, Hetfield James Alan

For many years this Nation has stood for being able to stand up for what you believe in (Never opened myself this way), Live in Anticipation (Every day for us something new), enjoy Freedom to put our faith in whoever or what we choose (Trust I seek and I find in you), be an independent thinker (Open mind for a different view) and stop paying attention to brainwash media (Never cared for the games they play).

For me, the one I choose to trust is the Creator of the Universe, the one and only true God, the Lord Himself. For others that may mean someone or something else that is not quite as omnipotent or omnipresent, but whatever it is, choose something and stand for it. Stop falling for everything you hear from your friends or favorite news anchors. Think for yourself, study it and make a decision. The bible says indecision makes Him want to puke. Ouch! I want to please my Father and Creator, not make Him sick.

Well, that was an interesting way to tie God and Metallica together, you might say. Am I saying that Metallica is a godly role model? No, of course not. But it does appear that they have the ability to ponder deep thoughts and it is my prayer that each and every one of them would someday have a saving relationship with Christ as their Lord and Savior and the one they can trust forever.
